    Floyd County located in northwest Georgia. It is part of the Rome, GA Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA.) Its county seat is Rome. It is named after John Floyd, a member of the U. S. House of Representatives representing a district in Georgia. Rome is the largest city in and the county seat of Floyd County, Georgia, United d in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, it is the principal city of the Rome, Georgia, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Floyd the census, the city had a population of 36, It is the largest city in Northwest Georgia and the 19th largest city in the y: United States.

      Georgia's Floyd County, formerly home to many of the state's Cherokee Indians, was established on December 3, , two years after the Georgia legislature passed a law extending its jurisdiction over the Cherokee territory in that part of the state. The subsequent act divided the Cherokee country into ten large counties. Floyd, the eighty-eighth county in Georgia, was named for .   In , on the basis of population and market area, Rome and Floyd County were designated as one of Georgia's fifteen metropolitan statistical areas.
